The Signs
Type II diabetes is affecting millions of people worldwide, and the number is increasing every year. Because of this, diabetes has become a major health concern.
As you must know, uncontrolled diabetes can lead to very serious complications, such as heart problems, kidney disease, blindness, loss of limbs and death. This makes it all the more important to spot the signs at the early stage of the disease before it worsens.
Here are some ways to tell if you might be suffering from diabetes.
1. Excessive thirst is one indication of diabetes. Observe your daily routine; ask yourself if you feel an unusual urge to drink water most of the time, even if it’s not very hot at all? If so, consider diabetes as a possible reason for this.
2. Excessive urination is another sign of diabetes. If you are making too many trips to the bathroom, a lot more than you normally do, it is likely that you are having diabetes.
3. Loss of weight that cannot be explained should lead you to suspect that you just may have diabetes. Especially if you’re not on a diet, and you’re not taking steps to lose weight either, but still you are losing weight, do not welcome this unexplained weight loss with glee as this could mean a serious, underlying problem — diabetes!
4. Vaginal itchiness can be a sign of diabetes. In the case of women, vaginal itchiness is one of the more common signs of diabetes.
5. Neuropathy or tingling of the extremities results when uncontrolled diabetes damages the nervous system. If you are experiencing numbness or tingling, particularly in your hands and feet, you are most likely having diabetes..
6. Cuts and wounds that take too long to heal. Too much sugar in the blood makes you prone to infections and delays the healing process of the wound. Ideally, an ordinary wound should not take more than a week to heal, so if yours is taking a lot more than that, suspect high blood sugar as the culprit.
7. Other diabetics have reported blurred vision, fatigue and weakness, and headaches.
If you are experiencing any of these signs, consult your doctor, so you can be advised on what to do to effectively control your blood sugar levels. Always quickly seek the advice of your doctor or health care professional in the above matters.
